I wish I had located these drawings when we made the “Art of the Animated Series” book… As you may have read in that book, Momo began as a cyclops robot monkey. Once we ditched the sci-fi angle, we decided he would be a two-eyed, flying, living monkey-thing. These pages, also from April 18, 2002, show the design process as he evolved into a lemur/spotted bat hybrid. I was trying to figure it out quickly so I could include him in one of the color illustrations (the sketches for which I posted yesterday and earlier today) for our pitch to Nickelodeon, which was fast approaching.
